The application of Mathematics in various disciplines of Science and Technology is widely acknowledged. The relevance of Mathematics has only grown with time as can be gauged from the essential role being played by this discipline in reaching the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Keeping its significance in consideration, the government sanctioned establishment of J&K Institute of Mathematical Sciences (JKIMS) in 2013.

The institute is affiliated with University of Kashmir for 5-Year integrated degree course in Mathematics at par with leading institutions of the country. One of the main aims of JKIMS is to conduct and promote research in Mathematical Sciences. Other important objectives include sharing technical expertise with corporate sector, government and other agencies besides collaborating with national and international research institutes of repute. In this respect, JKIMS is on course to emerge as an autonomous institute of excellence in the field of Mathematical Sciences.
